Press Release – September 21, 2007

ARIZONA MARTIAL ARTIST INVITED TO 15th HALL OF FAME

Rarely does an athlete make such an impression on his peers, that it leads to his induction into a Hall of Fame. When it does happen, it is a once in a lifetime achievement (usually). One Gilbert athlete has attracted worldwide attention because of his extraordinary martial arts career and method of teaching that he has been voted to receive this honor 15 different times from different national and international Halls of Fame since 1998. He was also voted as the 2004 Instructor of the Year, and the 2001 International Instructor of the Year.

W. Dan Hausel of Gilbert, has also been inducted into two Halls of Fame for his contributions to geology. His office looks like a WHO’s WHO in geology and martial arts: the number of awards he has received for his two professions as well as artwork and public speaking, number more than 100.

He claims his success is that he knows how to focus his energy and to build affirmations. "My greatest achievements are my students who have become more confident, respectful of others, and confidently humble. I have students all over the world who write to tell me about their experiences, careers, martial arts training, and families. This is what martial arts is really about. We are all one big family. My students include professors, geologists, chemistists, astrophysicists, linguists, engineers, doctors, nurses, police officers and teachers - what more could a martial artist ask of his students?”.

Hausel’s achievements in martial arts are numerous. He received a Sokeship (Grandmaster)in 1999, and certification for the highest available rank in Okinawa karate – a 10th Dan red belt in 2004.

He was also recently inducted into Who's Who in the World and Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and recently agreed to head a martial arts group at ASU.

But his dream still eludes him. He has a dream of building a martial arts research center witn a Zen garden where people from all around the world can train and become better and more respectful people.
